Before consenting to the marriage, the Maid ordered Väinämöinen to do some supernatural tasks like healing wounds, stopping bleeding, hammering iron and preparing ointments. When back at home, Väinämöinen sent Ilmarinen, the smith, to the North to hammer the Sampo, a creation to make gold, salt and corn. In spite of the fact that he completed the task, Ilmarinen had to return without the Maid of the North. Read more »
